The steps below detail the most common causes of this error.  If this Answers solution does not resolve the issue, please see Answers solution: Error: Not able to connect to Research Network -- Scenario Two.

Proxy server configuration:

CCH perform plus III by default will use the Proxy settings set within Internet Explorer.  If you use an automatic configuration script, software based Proxy, or a browser other than Internet Explorer.

  3. Click on the Access Configuration button.
  4. In the Firewall/Proxy Server Information section, Click on the Setup button.
  5. In the “Proxy Name or IP:” field, enter in the name or IP address of the Proxy server.
  6. If the Proxy server requires authentication to access the internet, enter your Proxy Username and Password.
  7. Click OK to save the settings in the “Proxy Information Settings” window.
  8. Click OK to exit the General Preferences screen.

Firewall configuration:

You may receive this error if you have a network or personal firewall that is blocking CustomerApplication.exe.

  1. If you use a personal firewall such as Norton Internet Security, you will have to allow CustomerApplication.exe in the program block list.  For more information please see your user manual for your firewall.
  2. If you do not use a personal firewall, then consult your local Helpdesk and have them check to see if CustomerApplication.exe is being blocked at the network level.
