Can I make a payment towards an extension after the extension has already been filed?
You cannot make an extension payment after the extension has already been filed. You would have to pay the federal online and the same goes for certain states.

Federal can be paid here: https://www.eftps.gov/eftps/ or by check

States can be checked using this link: https://support.cch.com/productsupport/elf/reference.aspx
