"Preview not available," or Document crashes when trying to preview Microsoft® Word®, Excel® or Adobe® PDF files in CCH Axcess™ Document or CCH ProSystem fx Document On-Premise.

When  previewing a file, Document (CCH Axcess Document or CCH ProSystem fx Document On-Premise) directs the user's operating system to launch the associated application and open the file. Occasionally, the link for the file association may break within the Microsoft Windows operating system. This link must be rebuilt, or the application may not permit the action. This must be resolved on the affected user's workstation.

To repair the link with Adobe® Acrobat® for PDF files, do the following:

  1. Launch Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Click Edit > Preferences.
  3. Click Categories > Internet.
  4. Ensure the Display PDF in browser or Allow fast web view box is checked.
  5. Click OK.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, you may need to re-register the DSO Framer, as you would with Microsoft Office (see below).

To rebuild the link with Microsoft Office applications (and with Adobe, if needed), re-register the DSO Framer using the Windows Command console ("command prompt"):

  1. Click the Windows Start Menu button, type CMD, right-click the CMD.EXE icon and click Run as administrator.
  2. In the console, change to the Document folder:
    • If using CCH Axcess Document: C:\Program Files (x86)\WK\ProSystem fx Suite\Smart Client\SaaS
    • If using CCH ProSystem fx Document On-Premise: C:\Program Files (x86)\WK\ProSystem fx Suite\Smart Client\OP
  3. Type regsvr32 dsoframer64.ocx and press ENTER, then type regsvr32 dsoframer.ocx and press ENTER.
  4. Close the Microsoft Windows Command console.
