“Engagement has encountered a problem and needs to close” When opening a workpaper

Disabled Engagement Ribbons can sometimes cause ProSystem fx Engagement to terminate unexpectedly. This issue can affect either Microsoft Word Documents and/or Microsoft Excel documents.

To resolve the issue for Microsoft Word:

  1. Launch Word outside of Engagement.
  2. Go to the Office Button (for Office 2007) or File Menu (for Office 2010 and Office 2013).
  3. Select Word Options (for Office 2007) or Options (for Office 2010).
  4. Select the Add-ins tab.
  5. Select to manage Disabled items and hit Go.
  6. Select any items beginning with “Pfx” and enable them.
  7. Close out of Word.
  8. Launch Engagement and open a Word document.

 

To resolve the issue for Microsoft Excel:

  1. Launch Excel outside of Engagement.
  2. Go to the Office Button (for Office 2007) or File Menu (for Office 2010).
  3. Select Excel Options (for Office 2007) or Options (for Office 2010).
  4. Select the Add-ins tab.
  5. Select to manage Disabled items and hit Go.
  6. Select any items beginning with “Pfx” and enable them.
  7. Close out of Excel.
  8. Launch Engagement and open a Excel document.

Note: In some cases, the add-ins will not display under Disabled items in the Add-ins menu. You must select to Manage Disabled Items in order to see all disabled items.

 

If Engagement continues to stop unexpectedly after following the above steps, contact Engagement Technical support at 1 (800) 739-9998 Option 4, option 2.
