"Invalid data on clipboard" when using Paste TB import to import accounts from a Microsoft® Excel® file to a Trial Balance in CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
This error is caused by special characters or Microsoft® Excel® functions in the imported data, or by corrupted data in the Microsoft® Windows Clipboard.
To resolve, complete the following:
- Make sure that the Trial Balance is checked out to the user.
- See our article on how to format data prior to using the Paste Trial Balance Import function.
- Verify there are no frozen panes in Microsoft® Excel® by scrolling up and down, also left and right. If so, please go to View > Freeze Panes > Unfreeze Panes.
- Ensure that both the Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet and Engagement or Workpaper Manager Trial Balance are in the same Microsoft® Excel® Instance.
- Close all Microsoft® Excel® workbooks that are open.
- If opened inside of Engagement or Workpaper Manager, click Tools > Options.
- Uncheck the option Launch Separate Instance of Excel.
- Re-open the import spreadsheet and retry to import the data.
- Clear the Microsoft® Windows clipboard.
- Click Start to open the Start menu.
- Type cmd in the search bar.
- Right-click on the command prompt, and select "Run as Administrator."
- Type in the following command: echo off | clip
- Press ENTER.
- Reboot the machine to clear the Windows clipboard and retry again to try and copy and paste TB import the data.
- Import the data from another Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet.
- Create a new blank Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet and place it on the desktop or within the binder.
- Open the new Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet.
- Open the original Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet with the data to be imported into Trial Balance.
- Highlight and copy the imported data from the original Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet and paste the data as Value(s) onto the new Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet.
- Proceed with Paste TB Import using the new Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet with the data to be imported.
- If the source spreadsheet is opened inside Engagement or Workpaper Manager, only the source spreadsheet needs to be open.
- Close the trial balance.
- In the source spreadsheet, click importable range.
- Right-click the importable range and click Copy.
- Right-click on the selected field and click Paste Trial Balance Import.
- If the source spreadsheet is opened outside of Engagement or Workpaper Manager, both source spreadsheet and trial balance must be open.
- In the source spreadsheet click importable range.
- Right-click the importable range and click Copy.
- Switch window back to the trial balance in Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
- Click the Engagement ribbon or Workpaper Manager ribbon and click Import > Paste TB Import OR Click TB Setup > Import > Paste TB Import.
- Contact the system administrator and attempt to review by performing the following below:
- If antivirus is presently running, try disabling security configuration. If issue improves or resolves please follow the below article:
- Troubleshoot Microsoft® Windows permission settings:
- Troubleshoot Microsoft® Trust Center Settings in Microsoft® Office
- Try logging in on the machine with a different Microsoft® Windows profile. If issue resolves try recreating the user a new Microsoft® Windows profile.
- If the issue persists, perform the steps below offer a work-around to the issue by bypassing the Microsoft® Windows clipboard and instead use the Import Conversion Wizard from the Engagement or Workpaper Manager addins.
- Follow the below workaround by saving the source spreadsheet to a .(.txt) Tab or Comma delimited text file or save it as a CSV file, and use the Import Conversion Wizard function from the addin to import your data.
- In the source workbook click File > Save As.
- Click the drop down menu next to "Save as type" and change it to Text (Tab delimited) (*.txt) or CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv).
- Browse and Save the file to the Desktop.
- In the Engagement trial balance click Import > Import Conversion Wizard > ASCII Text File.
- Browse to the location of the file and open it.
- In the Import window choose and click Comma or Tab delimited.
- Click Next to import.
