How do I use the CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager Check Files Utility?

Overview

The CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager CFR Check Files Utility will identify and repair workpapers in the Central File Room that may be hidden or missing, workpapers without extensions, empty zip files, bad zip files, and zipfiles that contain paths.

  • Note: The utility only works on the Central File Room and cannot be used to scan a Local File Room.

Installing the ProSystem fx Engagement CFR Check Files Utility

The CFR Check Files utility is packaged as a single ZIP file named "CFR Check Files.zip" located in the ?:\Pfx Engagement\Admin\Engagement CD Image\Utilities\ folder on the office server. It contains the executable file (CheckFiles.exe), and eight additional Replacement files of various file types that are used by the utility to repair/replace any central file room files that are damaged or missing. There is no installation process as such. Simply extract the zipped files into a single folder.

  • Note: In order for the utility to function properly, it is important that the Replacement files be unzipped into the same folder as the utility executable. It is also important that the files are unzipped into an actual folder, rather than used directly from the ZIP file itself.

Once the files are unzipped or extracted into a folder, you can either launch the CheckFiles.exe directly by double-clicking it, or optionally create a desktop shortcut for the executable. Please see your Microsoft® Windows® operating system documentation for steps to create a desktop shortcut.

Preferably, the utility should be run on the office server itself. It can be run from a remote workstation; however, this requires read/write access to the Central File Room workpaper path on the server. If you are running the utility from a remote workstation, the utility provides a Browse button to locate the workpaper path for the selected Central File Room.

Using the ProSystem fx Engagement CFR Check Files Utility

  1. Launch CheckFiles.exe.
  2. Enter the Office Server name, and select Connect to connect to the Engagement or Workpaper Manager Office Server.
  3. Select a File Room from the File Room drop down.
    • The File Room Path is automatically entered for the selected File Room.
    • If you do not have access to the File Room Path that is entered, either click Browse, or type in an alternate path to the Central File Room workpapers folder.
  4. Select the binder(s) you wish to check.
  5. Click Check Files.
    • A progress bar will appear indicating how far along it is in the process.
  6. Once the process has finished, a message will display indicating how many binders were found with hidden workpapers, missing workpapers, or workpapers with missing extensions.
    • Click Yes to automatically replace with a blank file so that the binder may be synchronized.
    • Click No to continue without replacing the workpaper with a blank file.
      • Note: If No is selected, no changes will be made, and you will need to manually repair the workpapers.
  7. Notepad will open with the log file detailing the results.
    • This log file is named Check files.txt and is saved inside the same directory as Checkfiles.exe.
