Microsoft® Excel® documents are opening slowly from CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager.

  • Check the exclusions in the antivirus to be sure that the recommended exclusions for CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager. For more information, please refer to the article What folder and file exclusions should be set for antivirus software to increase performance in CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager
  • Add Workpapers to Microsoft® Office® Trusted Locations.
    1. Open a Microsoft® Excel® workbook and click File > Options Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
    2. Click Trusted Locations Add New location.
    3. In the Path box, enter C:\Pfx Engagement\WM\Workpapers\.
      • For Terminal Server or Citrix installations, the workpapers folder may exist on a network drive. To find where the workpapers folder for the user is located, in CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager, go to Tools > Options > Data and copy the Workpapers path. 
    4. Select the check box Subfolders of this location are also trusted.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Select the check box Allow Trusted Locations on my network (not recommended).
      • While the option is listed as "not recommended", if users are working with Microsoft® Excel® workbooks that originated on a network location, or linked from a network location, this option is required for functionality.
  • Disable Protected mode.
    1. Open a Microsoft® Excel® workbook and click File > Options Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
    2. Click Protected View, and clear all check boxes.
  • Verify that the epace.xla file is only in one folder for Microsoft® Excel®, and there are no older copies in older Microsoft® Excel® folders. 
  • Other 3rd party add-ins can increase CPU time of every Excel instance.

Resolution

  1. Disable all Excel Add-ins
  2. Re-enable the Add-ins one at a time until the issue comes back.
