How do I install CCH® Fixed Assets Manager?

Process Overview

This article explains how to install both a local and network installation of CCH Fixed Assets Manager (FAM).  Installing FAM consists of two main steps.

  1. Download the compressed installation files from CCH Software Delivery Manager.
  2. Install CCH Fixed Assets Manager.

 

Download the installation file from CCH Software Delivery Manager

  1. Install Software Delivery Manager if you have not already done so:
  2. Download the installation file for CCH Fixed Assets Manager:

At this point you are ready to install CCH Fixed Assets Manager.  Use the appropriate section below for instructions on installing the program locally or to a network drive.

 

Fixed Assets Manager - Local Installation

  1. Close all applications running in Windows.
    • Important:  If this is the initial installation of FAM, the computer may restart during installation. Make sure that all of your work is saved and closed to prevent losing unsaved data before installing Fixed Assets Manager.
  2. In Software Delivery Manager, click View downloaded file in Windows next to the product that you are installing.
  3. Double-click the file to start the extraction process.
  4. Click Extract to start the extraction process.
  5. After the installation files are decompressed, right-click on Setup.exe and select Run as administrator. When the User Account control window opens, select Yes to continue.
  6. In the Fixed Assets Manager Master Setup screen, select Install.
  7. In the Welcome screen, select Next.
  8. In the Permission Key Installation screen, click Browse to browse to your permission key files.  Select fxperm02 and click Next
    • Note: If you need to download your permission key, click Permission Key in Software Delivery Manager to download your latest permission key files.
  9. In the Setup Type window, select Local.
  10. In the information window that opens, select OK to continue.
  11. In the Choose Destination Location window, select Next to accept the default locations (recommended).
    • Note: When installing a local installation of CCH Fixed Assets Manager, we recommended to use the default location and name for the program and database folders.
      • If you need to change the locations, select Browse, select the new destination folder, and select OK, and then Next. If you decide to change the name and location of the default program and database folders, we recommend that you create a folder called "REDMOON" within the new location.
  12. In the second Choose Destination Location window, select Next to accept the default path (recommended).
  13. In the Select Program Folder window, select Next.
  14. Product Selection opens. Select Fixed Assets Manager, if it is not already selected and then select Continue.
  15. The installation will prompt you to install Microsoft .NET 2.0, Microsoft .NET 3.5, or Microsoft . NET 4.0 Framework if it is not already installed. Select Yes to continue or No to exit the installation.
    • Note: A reboot may be required.
  16. When the required Microsoft .NET Framework installations complete, the installation will install Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0 if it is not already installed. Select Yes to continue.
  17. When the Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0 installation completes, the installation will install Microsoft Installer version 4.5 if it is not already installed. Select Yes to continue.
    • If a reboot is necessary a message will appear. Follow instructions to reboot . When your computer is back up, restart the installation (repeat steps 1-16 and then continue with step 17).
  18. After the latest program files are finished being copied, the Microsoft SQL Server Express 2014 installation begins.
    • Note: If this is a first time install, you will receive an informational message. Click OK to start the install of SQL.
  19. After Microsoft SQL Server Express 2014 installation is finished, Setup Complete opens. Select Finish to continue.
    • Notes:
      • The first time that you open CCH Fixed Assets Manager must be as an administrator. Right-click on the FAM icon and select Run as administrator.
      • After the install completes, an IT personnel (preferable) or a user must open the application and select File > Update License and navigate to the latest Permission Key file (fxperm02) that was downloaded from the Software Delivery Manager. Failure do so will generate incorrect licensing messages.
      • If this is a first time installation, when opening the program, the following message appears, "The local databases do not exist. Would you like to create the new databases?" Select Yes to continue.

 

Fixed Assets Manager -  Network Application Installation

  1. Close all applications running in Windows.

    • Important:  If this is the initial installation of FAM, the computer may restart during installation. Make sure that all of your work is saved and closed to prevent losing unsaved data before installing Fixed Assets Manager.
  2. In Software Delivery Manager, click View downloaded file in Windows next to the product that you are installing.
  3. Double-click the file to start the extraction process.
  4. Click Extract to start the extraction process.
  5. After the installation files are decompressed, right-click on Setup.exe and select Run as administrator. When the User Account control window opens, select Yes to continue.
  6. In the Fixed Assets Manager Master Setup screen, select Install.
  7. In the Welcome screen, select Next.
  8. In the Permission Key Installation screen, click Browse to browse to your permission key files.  Select fxperm02 and click Next
    • Note: If you need to download your permission key, click Permission Key in Software Delivery Manager to download your latest permission key files.
  9. The Setup Type window opens. Two installations options are available:
    • Local - Installs Fixed Assets Manager on the current workstation. Not applicable for Network installation (Not Recommended). See Local install above.
    • Network - Installs Fixed Assets Manager to a shared drive for access by multiple users (Recommended).
  10. Select Network.
  11. In the Choose Destination Location window, select Next to accept the default locations (recommended).
    • To change the location, select Browse, select the new destination, and then OK. To continue, click Next.
  12. Product Selection opens. Select Fixed Assets Manager, if it is not already selected and then select Continue.
  13. After all files are successfully copied, the Setup Complete window opens.
  14. To complete the installation process, click Finish.
  15. An information message appears about running Workstation Setup. Click OK.
  16. After the installation has completed, configure the SQL databases:

 

Notes

  • Workstation setup will need to be performed on each workstation that will access FAM on the network.
  • Workstation Setup is typically run after the Fixed Assets Manager databases have been created, but it can run any time after the application has been successfully installed.
  • To run Workstation Setup, run ?:\redmoon\faprog\wksetup\setup.exe, where ? equals the drive you installed on.
