How do I unlock or change a login password for CCH® ProSystem fx® Tax?

This article explains how to unlock or change your own password and how to change another user's password for CCH® ProSystem fx® Tax.

  • To Change Your Own Password. Your ProSystem fx Tax password will expire and need to be changed every 90 days. Use these instructions to proactively change your password at any time before it expires.
  • To Change Another User's Password. Use these instructions to unlock or reset another user's password if they have forgotten their password or their user ID is locked.


To Unlock and Reset Your Own Password



If you have forgotten your password or have locked your user ID, do the following:
  1. Open Tax Preparation.
  2. In the login window, enter your user ID.
  3. Click Forgot Password.
  4. Choose Proceed with Security Questions, or Obtain Temporary Code and click OK
    • If you chose Proceed with Security Questions, answer the security questions and click OK.
      • If you answer a security question incorrectly five times, your user ID will become locked.
    • If you chose Obtain Temporary Code, choose the method to receive the temporary code and click Send the Code.
    • Type the code that you received into the next window and click OK.
      • If you do not receive the code via email, please ensure that the email is not in your spam or clutter folder. Then ensure that you do not have a rule to move these emails.
  5. In the New Password window, enter your new password.
    • Passwords must be a minimum of eight characters. They must contain at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, a number, and a special character.
  6. When complete, click OK.


To Change Your Own Password



If you know your password and want to change it, do the following:
  1. Open Tax Preparation.
  2. In the login window, enter your user ID.
  3. Click Change Password.
  4. In the New Password window, enter your new password.
    • Passwords must be a minimum of eight characters. They must contain at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, a number, and a special character.
  5. When complete, click OK.


To Change Another User's Password



If another user has forgot their password, locked their user ID, or has forgot the answers to their security questions, another user with Supervisor rights can unlock their user ID and reset their password. 
  1. Open Office Manager.
  2. Click Configure Staff.
  3. Double-click the user that you want to reset the password for.
  4. If the user ID is locked, click Unlock.
  5. In the Password and Verify pswd boxes, enter a new password.
    • Passwords must be a minimum of eight characters. They must contain at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, a number, and a special character.
  6. Click OK.
    • Note: If the user's user ID was unlocked and their password was changed, they will be prompted to create a new password the next time they log in.
Note: If unable to resolve the issue with the steps above, CCH can provide a temporary password to allow the default administrator access to the program. CCH can only unlock the default administrator.
For CCH to assist and to meet security purposes please send an email to CCHSystemSupport@wolterskluwer.com that meets the following.
  • Contains:
    • Firm account number.
    • Explicitly requests in the email body, "Please provide a temporary password to login to ProSystem fx Tax."
  • Email originates from:
    • A partner or owner of the firm.
    • Email domain is unique to the firm or the email address that the request comes from matches the default admin user on file with us.
