Issue:

 The checklist used with the Pentana Checker program is not updating.

Cause/Background:

There are multiple possible reasons for this.  The most common occurs if the User Account Control (UAC) in Windows is turned on, as is often the case in Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1.  You can check the setting:

 

1. Click the Start Menu.
2. In the search box, enter UAC.
3. In the list of settings, select Change User Account Control settings.
4. Note the position of the slide-bar.

If the setting is on (anything but all the way down), please see Pentana Checker does not update the questionnaire file in Windows Vista or Windows 7

If the UAC is off and the checklist is still not updating, there are some things to check, depending on whether the checklist is stored locally or on a network:

If it is on the local computer:

 

The program and its data, including the checklist, normally is installed to "C:\Program Files\Pentana Checker" on 32-bit systems, and to "C:\Program Files(x86)\Pentana Checker on 64-bit systems".  In some instances the update will default to the "Program Files" address, as opposed to "Program Files(x86)". When installing the update, be sure to double-check the location.

If the data is kept on a network:

The program is still installed on the local "C:\" drive, but the checklists and client files are kept on a network share. In this case, be sure to install the checklist update to the same location as the pre-existing one. Especially be watchful that it does not create a nested "Pentana Checker" folder ("X:\...\Pentana Checker\Pentana Checker" instead of "X:\...\Pentana Checker)".
