Using Dynalink to import Trial Balance data from Engagement or Workpaper Manager to your tax return creates a dynamic link between the Trial Balance and the return. This means that when data in the Trial Balance is changed, that data will flow to the tax return.

Before importing Trial Balance data from Engagement or Workpaper Manager into the tax return, the export file that you will import must first be created in Engagement or Workpaper Manager.

Creating the Dynalink in CCH® ProSystem fx® Tax

1. Open Tax Preparation.
2. Close the Open Return window.
3. Make sure that the Accounting Bridge has been configured for Engagement or Workpaper Manager, and that the client list has been refreshed.

4. Click File >  Import > Dynalink.
5. Click Select Client.
6. Select the tax product of the client.
7. For the Account System, select CCH ProSystem fx Engagement\WPM and click OK.
8. Select the client that you wish to import, and click OK.
9. Click Select Return.
10. Choose the appropriate "Open or create return data" option.
    • Open - Will import into a tax return that has been created, opened, and saved in the current year.
      1. Click OK to bring up a picklist of existing returns.
      2. Select a return, and click OK.
    • New - Will create a new tax return during the import process.
      1. Enter a client ID and office group for the new return.
      2. Click OK.
    • Pro Forma - Will use a tax return that has been pro formaed (rolled forward) from the previous year to the current year, but never opened and saved in the current year.
      1. Click OK to bring up a picklist of Pro Formas.
      2. Select a Pro Forma and click OK.
11. Click Options to review the import options.
12. Select the Existing returns tab.
13. Select Remove existing data.
    • We recommend making this selection so that imported data is not duplicated with data rolled forward from the prior year.

14. If you would like to keep these options settings for future imports, click Save Default.
15. Click OK.
16. Click Import to import the Trial Balance data into the tax return.
17. Calculate and save the return. 

Notes:

• If Tax is installed on a Citrix or Terminal Server environment, and Engagement or Workpaper Manager is installed on your local machine, you cannot use the Dynalink feature.
• If both Tax and Engagement or Workpaper Manager are installed on a Citrix or Terminal Server environment, they must have both programs installed on the same server and have them opened in the same session.
• Published applications cannot be used. Both programs must be accessed through a published desktop.

Creating the Dynalink in CCH® Axcess™ Tax

1.  Open the return in CCH® Axcess™ Tax
2.  Select Import/Export tab in return window
3.  Click on the G/L Bridge button 
4.  Select Accounting System "ProSystem fx Engagement" from the dropdown menu
5.  Click on "Select client for import"
6.  "Tax Product" drop down should default to the opened return type
7.  Select the associated client from the client list
8. Click Options to review the import options.
9. Select the Existing returns tab.
10. Select Remove existing data.

11. If you would like to keep these options settings for future imports, click Save Default.
12. Click OK.
13.  Click Import.

Notes for All Tax Applications 

Once a tax return has been Dynalinked with the Engagement or Workpaper Manager Trial Balance, make sure to have the tax return open any time you make a change to the Trial Balance.

• For changes made to the Trial Balance to flow to the return, the return must be open when the Trial Balance is open.
• If you have more than one tax return open, open the tax return that Engagement or Workpaper Manager is linked to first. Then you can open any other returns that you want to have open. If you don't first open the return that is linked to Engagement or Workpaper Manager, you risk breaking the link between Engagement or Workpaper Manager and the tax return.
• Changes made in the tax return do not flow to the Trial Balance in Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
