How do I uninstall CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager from a machine?

There are two options for uninstalling Engagement or Workpaper Manager from a computer. The first option allows you to reinstall without losing any user data, while the second option will completely remove the software and any data. A complete uninstall can also differ based on which version of Engagement you are using.

Uninstall CCH ProSystem fx Engagement or Workpaper Manager without losing user information.

  1. Close out of all running programs.
  2. Open the Engagement install image or navigate to the Engagement CD Image on the server by pressing Windows Key + R and type \\{servername or IP}\Engagement CD ImageThen press enter.
  • For Workpaper Manager type \\{servername or IP}\Workpaper Manager CD Image.
  1. Right-click on PfxEngSetup.exe, and select Run as Administrator.​
    • For Workpaper Manager right-click on PfxWMSetup.exe, and select Run as Administrator.​
    • For v2019.2.1 or later, right-click on Setup.exe and select Run as Administrator.​ Then click New Engagement Installation and continue to step 4.
  2. Click Next on the welcome screen.
  3. Select Remove and click Next.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the wizard, and remove the Engagement program.

At this point, Engagement or Workpaper Manager has been un-installed; however, the databases that contain information about the users local file room are still present and the program can be re-installed without any loss of data.  Additionally, the local file room workpapers are still present in the directory "C:\Pfx Engagement\WM\Workpapers\."

 

Completely uninstall CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager from a computer.

Warning!:

  • Prior to completely uninstalling Engagement or Workpaper Manager from a users machine, it is important to verify that any users on this machine have checked in any workpapers that they have been working on, otherwise their work will be lost. You can scan a user profile for checked out workpapers in the Administrator module using the Global Profile Manager.
  • Prior to completely removing Engagement or Workpaper Manager from a server, it is important to make sure a recent backup of the SQL instance has been performed using the installed backup utility. Otherwise the central file room data may be lost.
  1. Close out of all running programs.
  2. Open the Engagement install image or navigate to the Engagement CD Image on the server by pressing Windows Key + R and type \\{servername or IP}\Engagement CD ImageThen press enter.
    • For Workpaper Manager type \\{servername or IP}\Workpaper Manager CD Image.
  3. Right click on PfxEngSetup.exe, and select Run as Administrator.​
    • For Workpaper Manager right-click on PfxWMSetup.exe, and select Run as Administrator.​
    • For v2019, right-click on Setup.exe and select Run as Administrator.​ Then click New Engagement Installation and continue to step 4.
  4. Click Next on the welcome screen.
  5. Select Remove and click Next.
  6. Follow the prompts to complete the Wizard, and remove the program.
  7. Open the Start menu after the uninstall completes, type Control Panel in the search box, and press Enter.
  8. Click Programs and Features.
  9. Locate the entry for Microsoft SQL Server 20XX (e.g. 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, or 2019) and select it.
  10. Click the Remove button.
  11. On the Component Selection screen select the pull down for PROFXENGAGEMENT. Click the Next button.
    • Important: If there are no other instances listed here for other software skip steps 11 and 12.
  12. The next screen will be a confirmation screen listing what will be un-installed. Select the Finish button.
    • This will uninstall the database engine components for the Engagement SQL instance.
  13. When the process completes, you will be back in the Programs and Features console. Press F5 to refresh the list of installed programs.
  14. Scroll down and locate the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client, highlight it and select Remove. Then select Yes
    • Important: Do not uninstall the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client if any other SQL Server instances are installed on the machine. If other instances are installed and the Native Client component is removed, it will cause the other instances to fail.
  15. Scroll down and locate the ProSystem fx SQL 20## Instance Installer (e.g. 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, or 2019), highlight it and click Remove if they are present.  If they are not present continue to step 16.
  16. Close out of the Programs and Features console.
  17. Open My Computer and browse to the drive where Engagement was installed to.
  18. Locate the Pfx Engagement folder and either rename or delete it.
