Functions are missing or grayed out in Microsoft® Excel® when using CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement, Workpaper Manager, or Knowledge Coach.
Note: Before proceeding, ensure that you have opened your Excel workpaper from within Engagement. Engagement functions will be greyed out by design when Excel files are opened outside of Engagement or Workpaper Manager, or if the binder is finalized.

Over time, the file Excel*.xlb may need to be deleted. This is caused to the following:
- Missing or disabled Microsoft Excel functions on the Excel toolbars.
- Missing or disabled Microsoft Excel functions when right-clicking in a workbook.
- Errors when launching Excel.
- Errors when closing Excel.

- Close all Microsoft Excel workbooks.
- Close all Microsoft Excel files.
- Right-click on the Task Bar and select Task Manager.
- Click on the Processes or Details tab and sort by Name.
- Right-click on any excel.exe processes and choose End Process.
- Press Windows+R on your keyboard to bring up the Run line.
- On the Run line, enter %appdata%\Microsoft\Excel, then press Enter.
- Delete all Excel*.xlb files.
- Examples:
- Excel12.xlb (Microsoft Office 2007)
- Excel14.xlb (Microsoft Office 2010)
- Excel15.xlb (Microsoft Office 2016 / 2019)
- Examples:
- When you open and close Microsoft Excel, the XLB file is recreated.
- Open Microsoft Excel.
- Click File
- Click Options.
- Click Add-ins.
- Under the Manage drop-down menu select Excel Add-ins and click Go.
- Uncheck all third party add-ins except for Epace.
- Repeat steps 2 through 4 and under Manage select COM Add-ins and click Go.
- Uncheck all third party add-ins except "Pfx.Ribbon.ExcelAddin"
- If using Knowledge Coach, leave the Pfx.Ribbon.KnowledgeCoachExcelAddin enabled.
- Close Microsoft Excel
- Browse back to the directory and rename the Excel##.xlb file.
- Open a blank Microsoft Excel workbook and then close the program to regenerate a new Excel##.xlb file.
- Reopen a Microsoft Excel workbook in Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
- If issue resolves, then troubleshoot each of the third party add-ins by individually by re-enabling them one by one, close and reopen Microsoft Excel to identify the possible culprit.
