Create a standalone installation of CCH® IntelliForms®


BEFORE YOU BEGIN: Please take a moment to review the CCH® IntelliForms®: System Requirements. If you need assistance making changes to your system to meet these requirements, contact your IT professional. 

To create a CCH® IntelliForms® standalone installation:

  1. Log on to your computer as an Administrator.
  2. Download the installation file (IFSetup.exe) from one of the following sites: CCH® AnswerConnect, VitalLaw™, and CCH® IntelliConnect®.

    CCH® AnswerConnect

    1. Navigate to https://answerconnect.cch.com.
    2. Log in using your CCH AnswerConnect user ID and password.
    3. Below the Federal Tax box, click Tax Tools.
    4. Click IntelliForms Install.

    VitalLaw™

    1. Navigate to my.vitallaw.com.
    2. Log in using your VitalLaw user ID and password.
    3. Within the Home section, complete an all content search for IntelliForms.
    4. In the results, click IntelliForms with the marker of Practice Tools.

    CCH® IntelliConnect®

    1. Navigate to https://intelliconnect.cch.com.
    2. Log in using your CCH IntelliConnect user ID and password.
    3. Click the download link:
      • If you are a Tax and Accounting customer: In the right pane, under Downloads, click Download/Upgrade CCH® IntelliForms®.
      • If you are a Legal customer: In the right pane, under Getting Started, click Download/Upgrade CCH® IntelliForms®
  3. Under Local Upgrade or New Installation, click Install.
  4. Select Run to launch the installation process or choose Save as to save the installation file (IFSetup.exe) to a location on your computer so that you can run the installation later.
    • If you select Save as, when you return to complete the upgrade, you can begin with step 5 below.
  5. Run the installation, making sure you are still logged in to your computer as an Administrator.
    1. If you previously saved the IFSetup.exe file instead of running it immediately, navigate to and run the IFSetup.exe file.
    2. Click Yes if you are asked “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?”
    3. At the CCH® IntelliForms® welcome page, click Next.
    4. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
      • Note: If you select I do not accept the terms in the license agreement, the installation process will end.
    5. Enter the User Name and Organization on the Customer Information window, and then click Next. The Select Type window displays. 
      • If you select Complete, CCH IntelliForms will install with all default settings. To continue, click Next.
      • If you select Custom > Next, you can click Change to install CCH IntelliForms to an alternate location on your computer. Please note that IntelliForms should not be installed to a network share. 
    6. On the Ready to Install the Program window, most users should select Anyone who uses this computer (all users). If you select Only for me, CCH IntelliForms will install into your Windows® profile, and its desktop shortcut will display only on your desktop.
    7. Click Finish on the Completed window.
  6. Double-click the CCH® IntelliForms® desktop shortcut to launch the program.
    • If the correct version of Microsoft® .NET Framework is detected, CCH® IntelliForms® will open.
    • If you are prompted to upgrade the .NET Framework, click Yes. Your Web browser will open the Microsoft® .NET Framework installation page. 
      1. Follow the page’s instructions to obtain and install the latest version of Microsoft® .NET Framework.
      2. Once .NET installation completes, you might receive a message from the Windows Program Compatibility Assistant that “Windows detected that this program did not run correctly.” You can ignore the message and click Close.
      3. Double-click the CCH IntelliForms desktop shortcut to launch the application.
  7. Click Continue on the Welcome message.
  8. Click Authenticate on the Unable to Access Blank Forms window.
  9. Enter your  CCH® AnswerConnect, VitalLaw™ or CCH® IntelliConnect® ID and password.  Check IP Configuration only if your research account is set up for IP access--check with the research Designated Administrator at your firm if you are unsure.
  10. If you require CCH® IntelliForms® to connect to a particular proxy server or firewall, enter the proxy name or IP address and Port number under Firewall/Proxy Server Authentication.
    • Note: If your proxy or firewall requires clear text authentication, enter the user credentials under Authentication Information.
  11. To test your settings, click Apply. A window listing your form subscriptions should display. 
  12. Click Continue.
  13. Click OK. CCH® IntelliForms® will update.
  14. Click Close when updates are completed.

Upgrade a standalone installation of CCH® IntelliForms®

To upgrade a CCH® IntelliForms® standalone installation:

  1. Log on to your computer as an administrator.
  2. Download the installation file (IFSetup.exe) from: 
    • CCH® AnswerConnect®

    1. Go to: https://answerconnect.cch.com.
    2. Log in using your CCH AnswerConnect ID and password.
    3. Below the Federal Tax box, click Tax Tools.
    4. Under Tax Tools, click IntelliForms Install.
        • VitalLaw™

          1. Navigate to my.vitallaw.com.
          2. Log in using your VitalLaw user ID and password.
          3. Within the Home section, complete an all content search for IntelliForms.
          4. In the results, click IntelliForms with the marker of Practice Tools.
    • CCH® IntelliConnect®

    1. Go to: https://intelliconnect.cch.com.
    2. Log in using your CCH IntelliConnect ID and password.
    3. Click the download link.
      • Tax and Accounting customers: In the right pane, under Downloads, click Download/Upgrade CCH® IntelliForms®.
      • Legal customers: In the right pane, under Downloads, Forms and Resources, click CCH® IntelliForms®.  
    1. Under Local Upgrade or New Installation, click Install.
    2. Select Run to launch the upgrade process or select Save as to save the installation file (IFSetup.exe) to a location on your computer so that you can run the upgrade later.
      • Note: If you select Save as, when you return to complete the upgrade, you can begin with step 5 below.
    3. Run the upgrade installation, making sure you are still logged in to your computer as an administrator.
      1. If you previously saved the IFSetup.exe file instead of running it immediately, navigate to and run the IFSetup.exe file.
      2. Click Yes if you are asked “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?” 
      3. At the Welcome screen, click Next.
      4. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next
        • Note: If you select I do not accept the terms in the license agreement, the upgrade process will end.
      5. Enter the User Name and Organization on the Customer Information window, and then click Next. The Select Type window appears.
      6. Do one of the following:
        • To run a normal installation, select Complete and click Next. Most users should select this option.
        • If you did a custom installation for your previous CCH IntelliForms version and want to upgrade to the same folder, select Custom for the new version and click Next. Use the Change button to navigate to your Custom CCH IntelliForms application folder and click Next.  If you select Complete instead, your custom location is deleted and the upgrade installs to the default CCH IntelliForms application folder. However, all your saved clients, profiles and user settings are preserved.
      7. On the Ready to Install the Program window, most users should select Anyone who uses this computer (all users). If you selected Only for me when you installed the previous CCH IntelliForms version, you should select this option again. The upgrade begins.
      8. Click Finish on the Completed window.
    4. Double-click the CCH IntelliForms desktop shortcut.
      • If the correct version of Microsoft® .NET Framework is detected, IntelliForms opens.
      • If you are prompted to update the Microsoft® .NET Framework, click Yes. Your Web browser opens the Microsoft® .NET Framework installation page. 
        1. Follow the page’s instructions to obtain and install the latest version of Microsoft® .NET Framework.
        2. Once .NET installation completes, you might receive a message from the Windows® Program Compatibility Assistant that “Windows detected that this program did not run correctly.” You can ignore the message and click Close.
        3. Double-click the IntelliForms desktop shortcut to launch the application.
    5. Click the Client Forms and Profiles tabs to verify that your saved data from your previous CCH IntelliForms installation was imported during the upgrade.
