What changes can I make to Legacy Trial Balance Reports created in CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager v7.2 or prior?

Reference Trial Balance amounts within Trial Balance Reports for efficiency and to minimize the risk of typing over numbers in the Trial Balance Database.

When marking up Trial Balance reports, use the following guidelines:

  • Account Grouping List. Ensure that all account grouping work is completed within the account grouping list prior to documenting or marking up any related Trial Balance Reports. Subsequent changes to account grouping lists may cause undesirable changes in workpaper documentation or mark up.
    • If it is necessary to make changes to an account grouping list, "publish" the affected Trial Balance Report(s) prior to making the change.
      • Use the published copy as a reference to existing workpaper documentation and mark up prior to making changes to the account grouping.
      • Use copy/paste to efficiently transfer documentation and mark ups from the published copy of the report to the newly created Trial Balance Report if required.
  • Hide/Unhide Rows and Columns. Do not hide or unhide any rows or columns within Trial Balance Reports.
  • Add/Delete Rows. Do not add or delete rows within Trial Balance Reports as it may corrupt the report.
  • Add/Delete Columns. Columns may be added for additional workpaper references and tickmarks.
    • To avoid the risk of permanently deleting a column that is crucial to the Trial Balance Report, never delete a column unless it was manually added.
  • Available Columns. All unhidden, empty columns, with no header descriptions are available for documentation and mark ups. (These are for Workpaper References and tickmarks only).
    • Place all notes, summarizations , conclusions, comments, explanatory tickmarks, and descriptions at least three columns to the right of the linked right-most column.
  • Available Rows. Place all notes, summarizations, conclusions, comments, explanatory tickmarks, and descriptions at least three rows below the linked bottom-most total row.
  • Formatting. Do not apply formatting changes to Trial Balance Reports.
    • Even though it is possible to change the formatting of the available cells, avoid all formatting changes within the Trial Balance Reports as most changes may not be saved.

  • Trial Balance Reports (e.g. Lead Schedules, TB Reports, Journal Entry Reports, etc.) are dynamically linked to the Trial Balance Database. These reports reflect the changes that occur in the Trial Balance Database.
  • Trial Balance Reports are displayed in a Microsoft® Excel® format, but are not standard Microsoft® Excel® workpapers. They must be used accordingly to avoid undesired workpaper changes or corruption.
  • As of CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement v7.5 Additional restrictions have been implemented to protect newly created trial balance reports from corruption. These restrictions will prevent the changes in this article through Microsoft® Office document protection. For further information on the reports created in v7.5 or higher, refer to CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager v7.5 - Best Practices for Trial Balance Reports.
