Error: "Illegal characters in path" when checking out a file in CCH Axcess™ or CCH ProSystem fx® Document

This is usually caused by an invalid character in the Client ID or Client Sort Field. This can be resolved by editing the affected client's profile.

CCH Axcess™

  1. Launch Dashboard > Application Links > Clients > Client Manager
  2. Open the specific client for editing
  3. Check the "Client ID" and "Sort name" fields for invalid symbol characters (see list below).
  4. If there are any, remove them and click Save & Close; you should be able to check out files without the error.
CCH ProSystem fx® Document
  1. Launch Dashboard. > Configuration > Client Manager > Client
  2. Open the specific client for editing
  3. Check the "Client ID" and "Sort name" fields for invalid symbol characters (see list below).
  4. If there are any, remove them and click Save & Close; you should be able to check out files without the error.
Invalid characters for client names:
  • < (less than)
  • > (greater than)
  • : (colon)
  • " (double quote)
  • ' (single quote)
  • / (forward slash)
  • \ (backslash)
  • | (vertical bar or pipe)
  • ? (question mark)
  • * (asterisk)
