Error: "Illegal characters in path" when checking out a file in CCH Axcess™ or CCH ProSystem fx® Document
This is usually caused by an invalid character in the Client ID or Client Sort Field, which is used to create a folder on your local Windows system; certain characters can't be used in file or folder names by Microsoft Windows. This error can be resolved by editing the affected client's profile, then checking out the file.
CCH Axcess™
- Launch CCH Axcess™ Dashboard > Application Links > Clients > Client Manager
- Open the specific client for editing
- Check the "Client ID" and "Sort name" fields for invalid symbol characters per our article 000141861 "What are invalid characters in file names or client names in CCH Axcess™ or CCH ProSystem fx® Document?"
- If there are any, remove them and click Save & Close; you should be able to check out files without the error.
- Launch CCH ProSystem fx® Dashboard. > Configuration > Client Manager > Client
- Open the specific client for editing
- Check the "Client ID" and "Sort name" fields for invalid symbol characters per our article 000141861 "What are invalid characters in file names or client names in CCH Axcess™ or CCH ProSystem fx® Document?"
- If there are any, remove them and click Save & Close; you should be able to check out files without the error.
