CCH® ProSystem fx® Scan: System Requirements

This article displays the system requirements for CCH ProSystem fx Scan Version 20 for the following:


Scan Administrator Module - [Return to Top]

Scan Administrator module is responsible for optical character recognition (OCR) of documents and performing identification and extraction. It is CPU-intensive and will automatically take advantage of system processing power. CPU utilization can approach 100%. Scan Administrator is also RAM-intensive and will automatically take advantage of available system RAM. Scan Administrator also performs significant input/output to the system storage device while processing. For these reasons:

  • Scan Administrator should always be the only active application running within a given install.
  • Acceptable throughput will be obtained by meeting or exceeding the recommended system specifications.
  • Scan Administrator will operate utilizing minimum specifications, but performance will not be optimal.

Processor
Scan Administrator is CPU-intensive and will automatically take advantage of system processing power. CPU utilization for Scan Administrator can approach 100%.

  • Recommended:
    • Processor with 8 or more available cores, which can be a combination of physical and logical cores.
    • Example: Intel Core i7 or AMD Processor or equivalent with 4 physical cores (8 logical cores) operating @ 3.40 GHz
  • Minimum:
    • Processor with 4 or more available cores, which can be a combination of physical and logical cores.
    • Example: Intel Core i5 AMD Processor or equivalent with 2 physical cores (4 logical cores) operating @ 2.50 GHz
       

RAM
Scan Administrator will take advantage of any available system RAM, so more is better.

  • Recommended:
    • 64 GB RAM
  • Minimum:
    • 32 GB RAM

Storage
Scan Administrator performs significant input/output to the system storage device. A solid-state drive located on the physical computer accessing it (direct‐attached storage) will provide optimal performance.

Note recommended and minimum storage requirements does not include storage required for data files.

  • Recommended:
    • 10 GB for program files
    • 10 GB for temporary data files
  • Minimum:
    • 10 GB for program files
    • 10 GB for temporary data files

  • XVGA at 32‐bit color quality with a resolution of 1920 x 1080

Supported Environments
Scan Administrator should be installed on a 64‐bit operating system to allow access to system RAM in excess of 4.2 GB.

  • Operating System - Recommended:
    • Microsoft® Windows Server® 2016
    • Microsoft® Windows Server® 2019
    • Microsoft® Windows Server® 2022
    • Microsoft® Windows Server® is strongly recommended for firms with staff 20 or greater

  • Virtualization:
    • VMware & Hyper‐V are supported.
  • .NET Framework:
    • Microsoft® .NET Framework 4.8 must be installed.
  • Network Support:
    • A domain is the preferred network implementation for Scan Administrator.
    • Microsoft® Windows® Workgroups are also supported in certain circumstances:
      • All computers that are part of the workgroup must have the same workgroup name.
      • Network Discovery must be turned on.

Unsupported Environments

  • Scan Administrator should not be installed in a Citrix or Remote Desktop Services environment. If a Citrix or Terminal Server environment is utilized, Scan Administrator must be installed on a separate machine.
  • Microsoft® Small Business Server®
  • Microsoft® Windows® 10 Home
  • Computers hosting other programs. Scan Administrator must be installed on a dedicated computer.
  • Non‐Microsoft® Windows® operating systems
  • All 32-bit operating systems

Other Software

  • PDF Software:
    • Adobe® Acrobat®, Adobe® Acrobat® Reader, or other PDF applications are not required on the Administrator computer, but may be installed if access to PDF documentation is desired.
  • Supported Browsers:
    • Microsoft® Edge; Google® Chrome™; Mozilla Firefox

Internet Access

  • Internet access is required for downloading installation files and program/catalog updates, as well as to access the help system and knowledge base.

Scan Workstation Module - [Return to Top]

Scan Workstation provides end‐users the ability to submit jobs to Scan Administrator, monitor their progress, and initiate the AutoFlow process. Scan Workstation must have access to the environment containing Scan Administrator. Processing of source documents does not occur in Scan Workstation and, as such, workstation system requirements are not as stringent as Scan Administrator.

Processor

  • Recommended:
    • 2.0 GHz Intel or AMD Processor or equivalent 
  • Minimum:
    • 1.8 GHz Intel or AMD Processor or equivalent

RAM

  • Recommended:
    • 16 GB RAM
  • Minimum:
    • 8 GB RAM

PDFlyer/PDFlyer Stand Alone Requirements - [Return to Top]

PDFlyer is a plug‐in which adds significant firm‐specific functionality to Adobe® Acrobat®. The workstation needs to have a network connection to install PDFlyer.
Supported

  • Adobe® Acrobat® DC for both Continuous and Classic tracks/ Standard or Pro (32-bit or 64-bit)

Unsupported

  • Adobe® Acrobat® versions 2017 and older
  • Adobe® Acrobat® Reader

Other system variables should comply with Adobe® Acrobat® system requirements.

Scan Saas - AutoFlow Wizard & Funnel - Return to Top


Scan SaaS is a cloud-based alternative to processing source documents without the need for additional hardware.  The secure website provides end‐users the ability to submit jobs to Scan SaaS, monitor their progress, and download files.  To initiate the AutoFlow process, the AutoFlow Wizard must be downloaded and installed from the Scan SaaS server.  The AutoFlow wizard will connect the source documents to the tax return.  Additionally, the Scan Funnel will also install with the AutoFlow Wizard and can provide the end-user the ability to add and organize digital files prior to uploading to Scan SaaS.

Scanner Requirements - [Return to Top]

  • Dedicated scanner capable of producing multi-page TIFF or PDF files.
  • The software bundled with the scanner should provide advanced setup options.
  • Multi‐function machines (copy/fax/scan) are not recommended since they generally produce poor results when compared with dedicated scanners.

  • Fujitsu fi-7180
  • Fujitsu fi-7600
  • Fujitsu fi-8170

Note: These scanners are bundled with Fujitsu PaperStream Capture software which meets the "advanced setup option" requirement.
