e-file Status: “EFIN Mismatch with VCN on File”

The e-filing process for this return has been stopped due to missing or incomplete EFIN information within EFIN Manager. For resolution, please enter the EFIN and tracking number information in EFIN Manager on the Electronic Filing Status Site.


Please follow the steps below:
  1. Launch the Electronic Filing Status System from within the tax program.
  2. Select Admin > EFIN Manager from the toolbar.
  3. Click Add EFIN on the EFIN Manager window.
  4. Enter the EFIN that was assigned by the IRS to authorize electronic filing.
  5. Enter the IRS Tracking Number associated with the EFIN.
    • Note: When entering the Tracking Number, the account number must be selected to apply it to.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. For verification, re-enter the EFIN and Tracking Number.
  8. Click Confirm.
  9. If your entries match, click OK to continue.
  10. Click OK to confirm acknowledgement. It will take approximately 24-48 hours for the IRS to validate the EFIN.
  11. Select an account number for the EFIN. You can select multiple account numbers for a single or multiple EFINs, if needed.
  12. Click Save.


The e-filing process for this return has been stopped due to the EFIN and VCN not being linked to an account at the time the return was submitted. Please use EFIN Manager to link the EFIN, VCN, and the Account Number. (If this has since been completed, please re-calculate the return and re-submit for electronic filing.)


Please follow the steps below:
  1. Launch the Electronic Filing Status System from within the tax program.
  2. Select Admin > EFIN Manager from the toolbar. 
  3. Identify the EFIN that is not associated with an account.
  4. Click Edit in the Update column.
  5. Highlight the Account Number(s) that should be associated with this EFIN.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. For verification, re-select the Account Number(s).
  8. Click Confirm.
  9. If your entries match, click OK to continue.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Re-submit the return for electronic filing.

  1. Launch the Electronic Filing Status System from within the tax program.
  2. Select Admin > EFIN Manager from the toolbar.
  3. Identify the EFIN from the list with no tracking number associated.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. Enter the IRS Tracking Number associated with the EFIN.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. For verification, re-enter the Tracking Number.
  8. Click Confirm.
  9. Click OK to confirm acknowledgement. It will take approximately 24-48 hours for the IRS to validate the EFIN.
  10. Click Save.
