How do I display tax news event details and the clients that may be affected using CCH Axcess™ iQ?

Objectives

CCH Axcess iQ provides information about tax regulatory changes that may impact your clients. The iQ Events pane in your Dashboard presents a summary of announced, proposed, and final changes to tax rulings.

Note: You must be licensed for CCH Axcess iQ and CCH Axcess Tax must be licensed and installed. For more information, see our article on assigning CCH Axcess iQ licenses.

Procedure

Open the iQ Events Pane

To add or open the iQ Events pane, click Application Links on the Dashboard navigation panel, and then click iQ Events under Business Intelligence.

The pane provides the following details:
  • The date each news event was published.
  • A short description of each news event.
  • The status of where a news event is in the legislative process, either Announced, Proposed, or Final.
  • The number of clients that may be affected by each news event.
    • Note: Clients you are not granted access to are not included in the number. These may be clients in a client access group for which you are not granted access. They can also be clients whose tax returns are linked to projects for which you are assigned a role and that role is not granted the Tax returns > View functional right.
You can do the following:
  • Click User-added image to refine the news events that display in the pane.
  • Click User-added image to download editable correspondence regarding each news event that you can send to clients. You can also copy the letter contents in an email message or use the contents as points of conversation with your customers.
Note: The pane content is based on queries that are run by our Editorial team. Refresh updates the pane only after a new query is run.

Display More Detail

Do the following to display more detail about a news event or affected clients:
  • News events. Click a news event title to open the full publication, including an overview of the ruling and how it applies to clients. You can then do the following:
    • Navigate the publication by clicking section headings on the left side of the window.
    • Click User-added image at the top of the window to save and open the publication as a PDF file.
    • Click Download client letter under Take Action to open the letter associated with a news event that you can use to alert clients of regulation changes. You can also copy the letter contents in an email message or use the contents as points of conversation with your customers.
    • Click links in the Event Timeline to open other news events.
    • Click supporting research links in the publication to open additional detail in CCH® AnswerConnect.
      • Note: A license for AnswerConnect is required.
  • Affected clients. Click User-added image to open a list of client details and links to client tax returns. You can then do the following:
    • Click User-added image at the top of the window to display information about the criteria clients must meet to be listed on the page.
    • Filter clients by selecting a client responsible staff description, and then accept yourself as the staff position or another staff member.
      • If a client responsible staff filter is applied on the Dashboard iQ Events pane, it is also applied on the Affected Clients page.
      • The default client responsible staff is the one that is designated as iQ staff for the firm in Lists.
    • Click the ID in the Return column to open a client's tax return.
    • Click User-added image to open the letter associated with a news event that you can use to alert clients of regulation changes. You can also copy the letter contents in an email message or use the contents as points of conversation with your customers.
    • Click User-added image to export the Affected Client list to an XLS file. All column headings, rows, and formatting are maintained in the exported file.
