Symptoms

"The document contains links that may refer to other files. Do you want to update this document with the data from the linked files?" when opening Word documents.

Environment

CCH ProSystem fx Engagement
CCH ProSystem fx Workpaper Manager.

Cause

The links were not created per best practices.

Resolution

Saved the file outside of Engagement or Workpaper Manager by clicking File > Save As and saving to a location such as the Desktop.
Open the file from the location saved to in step 1.
Go to File > Info > Edit Links to Files.
Break the links listed in the screen and save the file.
Import the new file into Engagement or Workpaper Manager and recreate the links per best practices listed in the article below.
