How do I indicate that the PTIN entered in the Return Configuration Set (RCS) or the tax return is accurate for returns using worksheet view?

Objectives

To enter and verify the PTIN information entered is accurate for returns in CCH Axcess Tax.
To enter and verify the PTIN information entered in the Return Configuration Set (RCS) is accurate for return in CCH Axcess Tax.

Procedure

The PTIN information can be entered within a return in tax or globally in the Return Configuration Set:


In Tax Preparation

Entered in Preparer Information - [Return to Top]

  1. Go to the General > Return Options worksheet.
  2. Select Section 6 - Preparer Information - Overrides Office Manager.
    • In Line 14 - Alternate preparer ID number (PTIN), verify the PTIN entered is accurate.
    • In Line 15 - PTIN is accurate and I am the registered owner - (Y),(N), enter Y.
  3. Calculate the return.


Entered in Electronic Return Originator - Overrides - [Return to Top]

  1. Go to the General > Electronic Filing worksheet.
  2. Select Section 4 - Electronic Return Originator - Overrides Office Manager.
    • In Line 10 - Alternate ERO I.D. number (PTIN), verify the PTIN entered is accurate.
    • In Line 11 - PTIN is accurate and I am the registered owner - (Y),(N), enter Y.
  3. Calculate the return.

Use the table and steps below to determine the box number of the PTIN and confirmation fields.


In Axcess Staff Manager or the Return Configuration Sets

Entered in Staff Manager - [Return to Top]

  1. Open Dashboard.
  2. Click Applications Links.
  3. Under Staff, click Staff Manager.
  4. Locate the appropriate Staff member, and select the checkbox next to their name.
  5. On the menu bar at the top, click Open on the Home tab.
  6. Under Tax, click Signer.
    • In the Signer Identification section, verify the PTIN entered is accurate and then select the PTIN is accurate and I am the registered owner checkbox.
  7. Click Save & Close.


In the Return Configuration Sets - Signature Block - [Return to Top]

  1. Open Dashboard.
  2. Click Applications Links.
  3. Under Tax, go to Configuration > Return configuration sets.
  4. Locate the appropriate Tax Return Configuration Set, and click the drop down.
  5. Click Signature Block.
    • In the Signer Identification section, verify the PTIN entered is accurate and then select the PTIN is accurate and I am the registered owner checkbox.
  6. Click Save & Close.


In the Return Configuration Sets - Electronic Filing Options - [Return to Top]

Note: Complete these steps if using the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) overrides in Office Manager.

  1. Open Dashboard.
  2. Click Applications Links.
  3. Under Tax, go to Configuration > Return configuration sets.
  4. Locate the appropriate Tax Return Configuration Set, and click the drop down.
  5. Select the Electronic Filing Options drop down.
  6. Click General.
    • In the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) overrides section, verify the PTIN entered is accurate and then select the PTIN is accurate and I am the registered owner checkbox.
  7. Click Save & Close.

Additional Information

Notes

  • If a user has a PTIN entered and saved in their Staff profile:
    • The user will be prompted to review and confirm the accuracy of their PTIN after logging into a CCH® ProSystem fx® application.
      • PTIN Verification dialog
    • Selecting the PTIN is accurate and I am the registered owner checkbox and clicking OK will prevent the Confirm PTIN dialog from displaying for this user on future logins.
    • If the user clicks Cancel or the X to close this dialog and does not confirming their PTIN, they’ll be prompted to confirm their PTIN with subsequent logins.
    • If the user does not have the PTIN saved in the Staff profile, the Confirm PTIN dialog will not display when logging in.
  • Prior to being able to electronically file a return, the PTIN must be confirmed.
    • If the PTIN is accurate and I am the registered owner checkbox is not selected, the following diagnostics will issue:
      • Diagnostic: 18834 - "Form [Form #]. The Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) must be confirmed to be accurate by the registered owner prior to electronically filing this return. This confirmation is missing in either RCS/Office Manager or on Interview Form 3, Box 59. The PTIN must be confirmed where it was originally entered in RCS/Office Manager or Tax Preparation."
      • Diagnostic: 60638 - State Electronic Filing. The preparer tax identification number (PTIN) must be confirmed to be accurate by the registered owner prior to electronically filing this return.  This confirmation is missing in either Office Manager, Interview Form 3, Box 59, or Interview Form EF-2, Box 48.  The PTIN must be confirmed where it was originally entered in Office Manager or Tax Preparation.
