"An error has occurred for task BackupRestoreUtil. Error message: The specified account name is not valid." when creating or modifying schedule task for the CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement Database Backup and Restore Utility.

Symptoms

"An error has occurred for task BackupRestoreUtil. Error message: The specified account name is not valid" when creating or modifying schedule task for the Engagement or Workpaper Manager Database Backup and Restore Utility.

 

Environment

  • CCH ProSystem fx Engagement
  • CCH ProSystem fx Workpaper Manager

Cause

There's a permissions issue or insufficient rights assigned to the Windows user account or administrator account that is being used.

Resolution

  • If creating the schedule task for the first time, and the current Windows user account isn't working.
    1. Switch or change to a different administrator account.
      • If running on a domain enter the domain name first (Example: domain\administrator)
      • If running on a workgroup try entering the computer name and then the account name (example: DesktopName\Administrator or Servername\Admin)
    2. Enter the password for this account.
    3. Click OK.
  • If the schedule task was already created and attempting to modify the current schedule task:
    1. In Task Scheduler right-click on the BackupRestoreUtil task and select Properties.
    2. On the General tab, click "Change User or Group"
    3. Enter a different administrator account.
      • If running on a domain enter the domain name first (Example: domain\administrator)
        • If unable to find click on the Advanced Button and click Find to search the domain an account
      • If running on a workgroup try entering the computer name and then the account name (example: DesktopName\Administrator or Servername\Admin)
        • If unable to find another user click on the Advanced Button and click Find to search the computer for an alternate account.  If none are present you may have to create  new Administrator profile.
    4. Enter the password for this account.
    5. Click OK.
  • If the above steps fail to resolve contact your system administrator to troubleshoot this issue.  There are several Microsoft community sites that can help assist with this issue, but if the below links do not help resolve then it's advised to contact Microsoft support.
