Service Notice: CCH® SureTax® migrating to TLS 1.2

This is an important notice of changes that could affect your ability to process transactions with CCH SureTax.

CCH® SureTax® is migrating to Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 and Hypertext Transfer Protocol version 1.1 (HTTP/1.1) for data connections including the transfer of transactional data for tax rating.  This is part of our ongoing effort to ensure connection security.

Once the changes go into effect, only connections using TLS 1.2 and HTTP/1.1 (or better) will be able to connect with CCH SureTax. If your connections do not support these standards, you will be unable to connect with CCH SureTax to process transactions or perform other activities.

Conversion Dates:
  • July 31, 2019 -  CCH SureTax test environment (CERT)
  • October 30, 2019 - CCH SureTax production environment (PROD)

Action Required: You should verify that your environment supports TLS 1.2 and HTTP/1.1 and, if necessary, make the appropriate updates in order to connect to CCH SureTax.  If your system does not support these standards, you should work with your IT Department meet these standards.

After July 31, you can send test transactions to CCH SureTax CERT to verify that your system can communicate with CCH SureTax using TLS 1.2 and HTTP/1.1.

About TLS:  Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a protocol that provides authentication, privacy, and data integrity between two communicating computer applications. It's the most widely-deployed security protocol used today and is used for applications that require data to be securely exchanged over a network, such as web browsing sessions, file transfers, VPN connections, remote desktop sessions, and voice over IP (VoIP).
