Objectives

IRS debits scheduled for 10/16 were not taken until 11/8 and were posted as 11/8 rather than 10/16/23.

This is not an issue in our software. The IRS is aware and will communicate with affected taxpayers in the future.

If the return had an ACH Debit Date on 10/16/2023 and the taxpayer received a late payment/penalty notice, that they should be receiving an additional letter from IRS resolving the penalty.

Procedure

An issue was identified by the IRS with regard to returns that contained ACH Debit dates of October 16, 2023. If the taxpayer has received a late payment/penalty notice, their account has been corrected and they should be receiving an additional notice stating that the account has been corrected. There is no further amount owed by the taxpayer. At this time, the IRS has not provided a prediction for when those additional notices will be sent.
