How do I receive a binder package in CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager?

Creating and receiving binder packages is completed in the Workpaper Management module of CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager.

  • When receiving a binder package from a different firm, you must log in to the Workpaper Management module as the default "Admin" user account.

To Receive a Binder Package from a Known File Location

    1. Log in to the Workpaper Management module with the "Admin" user account and password.
    2. Click Tools > Receive Binder Package.
    3. Browse to the location of the binder package.
      • If using Flash or USB Drives, copy the binder package to the local hard drive before receiving the Binder Package.
      • Some Microsoft® Windows® security settings may not allow the binder package to be received from the Desktop. If unable to receive the binder package from the Desktop, move the binder package to ?:\Pfx Engagement\WM\Binder Packages (where ? is the drive where Engagement or Workpaper Manager is installed) and receive it from there. 
    4. If the binder package was created in a different version of Engagement or Workpaper Manager, a dialog will appear stating that the binder will need to be converted to the current version. Click Yes.
      • Binders created in versions older than the version being received to can be converted up. Binders created in newer versions cannot down-convert when being received on an older system.
        • Example: Another firm is on v2021 of Engagement, and you are using v2020, You will not be able to receive the binder because you are on an older installation. 
    5. If receiving a binder package from another firm, a dialog will appear stating that firm information, staff, and signoff information will be removed from the received binder. Click Yes.
    6. Open the local file room in your Workpaper Manager Module. 
    7. Click on the received binder. 
    8. On the toolbar, click Assign Binder Staff to assign staff to the binder.
    9. The binder may now be synchronized to the Central File Room.
      • If you are not logged in as the default Admin when receiving a binder package from another firm, you will not be able to synchronize the binder.


    To Receive a Binder Package from an email Attachment

    1. ​Select the email in Microsoft® Outlook®.
    2. Click on the ADD-INS ribbon.
    3. Click on Engagement or Engagement Functions > Receive Binder Package...
    4. If the binder package was created in a different version of Engagement or Workpaper Manager, a dialog will appear stating that the binder will need to be converted to the current version. Click Yes.
      • Binders created in versions older than the version being received to can be converted up. Binders created in newer versions cannot down-convert when being received on an older system.
        • Example: Another firm is on v2017 of Engagement, and you are using v7.5.100.1223. You will not be able to receive the binder because you are on an older installation. 


    If receiving a binder package from another firm:
    • NOTE: This must be performed by default Admin staff user.  ALSO the all workpaper signoffs from the other firm will be removed from the binder when received into your Local Fileroom. 
    • a dialog will appear stating that firm information, staff, and sign-off information will be removed from the received binder. Click Yes.
    1. Open the local file room in your Workpaper Manager Module. 
    2. Click on the received binder. 
    3. On the toolbar, click Assign Binder Staff to assign staff to the binder.
    4. The binder may now be synchronized to the Central File Room.
      • If you are not logged in as the default Admin when receiving a binder package from another firm, you will not be able to synchronize the binder.
