How do I import data from CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance into CCH ProSystem fx Tax using Dynalink?

Using Dynalink, you can import trial balance data from CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance to CCH ProSystem fx Tax. 

Notes:

  • CCH ProSystem fx Tax and CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance need to be installed on the same machine to use Dynalink.
    • If these programs are running on a server, verify that the network installations for both products are on the same server.
    • Dynalink may not work if one product is installed locally and the other is installed on a different machine on the network.
    • Consider using G/L Bridge to import data to CCH ProSystem fx Tax if this condition cannot be met.
    • Dynalink will not function when using published applications.  Users should access the software through a single published desktop instance.
  • Using Dynalink to import CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance data into tax returns can only be done in CCH ProSystem fx Tax. 
    • If you use CCH Global fx Tax or CCH Axcess Tax, use G/L Bridge to import data from CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance into a tax return.
    • Dynalink can be used in CCH Global fx Tax and CCH Axcess Tax to import trial balance data from CCH ProSystem fx Engagement.

Use the following steps to Dynalink CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance with CCH ProSystem fx Tax.

In CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance

  1. In CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance, open the company that you wish to export.
  2. Click Setup > Tax Information...
  3. Verify/select the following.
    • Tax Return - Select the type of tax return you are importing the trial balance to.
    • Dates - Select the Tax Year of the tax return that you are importing the trial balance to.
    • Trial Balance Year - The year in the Trial Balance Year field, as defined on the Years grid, corresponds to the tax year of the return that you are importing into.
    • Tax Service - Select the tax program that you are importing into.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Open the "Tax Lines" grid (Work > Grids... > Tax Lines) and verify that the accounts are assigned to the appropriate tax lines.  The tax lines' balances that will be imported into the tax return must have the value of Yes in the "Send to Tax?" column.

In CCH ProSystem fx Tax

  1. Open Tax Preparation for the year that you want to import to.
  2. Close the "Open Return" window.
  3. Make sure that the accounting bridge has been configured for ProSystem fx Trial Balance and that the client list has been refreshed.
  4. Click File > Import > Dynalink.
  5. Select the tax product of the client.
  6. Select the accounting system that you are importing from and click OK.
    • In this case, select ProSystem fx Trial Balance/CBEAM.
  7. Select the client that you wish to import and click OK.
    • The companies listed in this window are the companies whose tax return type matches the tax product selection made in the In CCH ProSystem fx Trial Balance section above.
  8. Click Select Return...
  9. Choose the appropriate "Open or create return data" option.
    • Open - Will import into a tax return that has been created, opened, and saved in the current year.
      • Click OK to bring up a picklist of existing returns.
      • Select a return and click OK.
    • New - Will create a new tax return during the import process.
      • Enter a client ID and office group for the new return, then click OK.
    • Pro Forma - Will use a tax return that has been Pro Forma'ed (rolled forward) from the previous year to the current year, but never opened and saved in the current year.
      • Click OK to bring up a picklist of Pro Formas.
      • Select a Pro Forma and click OK.
  10. Click Options to review the import options.
  11. Select the Existing returns tab.
  12. Select Remove existing data.
  13. If you would like to keep these options settings for future imports, click Save Default.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click Import to import the trail balance data into the tax return.
  16. Calculate and save the return.
