How do I create the tax export file to export from CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager for dynalink to CCH® ProSystem fx® or CCH Axcess™ Tax?

This video shows how to configure the Tax software interface within a binder in CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement.

Follow these steps to create the export file that will be used to Dynalink the Engagement or Workpaper Manager Trial Balance to a tax return.

  1. Make sure you are the current editor of the trial balance in Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
  2. In the Binder Index, select a tab or the Trial Balance Database.
  3. Go to Tools > Tax Software Interface.
  4. In the Trial balance field select the trial balance that you wish to export.
  5. In the Tax software field select ProSystem fx Tax (Dynalink).
    • You will select this option when exporting to either ProSystem fx Tax or Axcess Tax, as long as you want to use the Dynalink option.
    • If the trial balance is a consolidated trial balance and it has the M3 box checked in the Account Groupings > Options dialog, the Tax software field will change to G/L Bridge.
  6. Select the appropriate Configuration information.
    • Tax Year
    • Grouping
    • Balance
      • If the M3 box is checked in the Account Groupings > Options dialog, the Federal Tax Balance must be selected.
      • If the balance type you would like to export is not available you will need to use the TB Column Setup option to add that balance type to the trial balance.
    • Employer ID #
      • Enter the Federal ID Number or any value to use as the Employer ID #. This field holds 14 total characters. The first nine digits are for the EIN with no dash, the first ten are for the EIN with a dash. The remaining characters may be used for unique identifiers from one year to the next.
      • Note: This field needs to be unique between all years and all trial balances. (i.e. add the year to the end of the EIN/Client ID). Also, spaces are not allowed. Including a space as part of the remaining characters will cause the OK button to be disabled.
  7. Click OK to create the export file.
  8. Review the Tax Software Interface Report.
    • You can select Print, Save As, or Close.
  9. Dynalink the export file to your tax return.

Notes:

  • Once the tax return has been Dynalinked with the trial balance, make sure to have the tax return open any time you make a change to the trial balance in Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
    • In order for changes made to the trial balance to flow to the return, the return must be open when the trial balance is open.
      • If you need to have more than one tax return open, open the tax return that Engagement or Workpaper Manager is linked to first.  Then open any other returns as needed.  Not opening the return that is linked to Engagement or Workpaper Manager first, risks breaking the link between Engagement or Workpaper Manager and the tax return.
    • Making changes to the trial balance when the return is closed, risks breaking the link between the trial balance in Engagement or Workpaper Manager and the tax return.
  • Changes made in the tax return do not flow to the trial balance in Engagement or Workpaper Manager.
  • ProSystem fx® Tax and Dynalink.
    • If Tax is installed on a Citrix or Terminal Server environment, and CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager is installed on the user's local machine, they cannot use the Dynalink feature.
    • If both Tax and Engagement or Workpaper Manager are installed on a Citrix or Terminal Server environment, they must have both programs installed on the same server and have them opened in the same session.
      • Published applications cannot be used, both programs must be accessed through a published desktop.
  • Axcess Tax and Dynalink.
    • If Access Tax is installed on a Citrix or Terminal Server environment, and Engagement or Workpaper Manager is installed on the user's local machine, they cannot use the Dynalink feature.
    • If Access Tax and Engagement or Workpaper Manager is installed on a Citrix or Terminal Server environment, they must have both programs installed on the same server and have them opened in the same session.
      • Published applications cannot be used, both programs must be accessed through a published desktop.
