How do I copy and paste information in Knowledge Coach workpapers?
There are a few best practices to follow when copying and pasting information in Knowledge Coach (“KC”) workpapers. The steps are a bit different if you are copying information within a KC workpaper (from one cell to another in a table) than if you are copying information from another application like Knowledge Tools, PPC, McGladrey, or some other source.
Copying information within a Knowledge Coach workpaper
- When copying text from one cell in a table in a Word Knowledge Coach workpaper to another cell, you need to select the cell in a certain way. The copy will not work if you just try to select the actual character test in the cell by marking with your mouse or by double or triple clicking. There are two ways you can properly select the text:
- Select the text using either the Microsoft Word content control. Make sure you click on the blue bar with the white dots on the left-hand side of the content control to completely select it.

-
- Select the entire cell by highlighting it. You can do this by floating your mouse over the upper-left-hand corner of the cell until you get a black arrow, as shown below, and clicking.

- Type CTRL + C or choose Copy from the Clipboard group on the Home ribbon in the Word workpaper to copy.
- Navigate to the cell where you want to copy the text to, and place your cursor inside the cell.
- Either type CTRL + ALT+ V or choose Paste > Paste Special from the Clipboard group on the Home ribbon in the Word workpaper. The following dialog should appear. Select “Unformatted Text” and click OK to paste the text.
Copying information from another application into Knowledge Coach
- Select the text in the other application, and copy it the way you normally would using CTRL + C or the applicable function.
- Navigate to the cell where you want to copy the text to in the Knowledge Coach workpaper, and place your cursor inside the cell.
- Either type CTRL + ALT+ V or choose Paste > Paste Special from the Clipboard group on the Home ribbon in the Word workpaper. The following dialog should appear. Select “Unformatted Text” and click OK to paste the text.
Run-Time Errors
If you receive a run-time error that looks like the one below when pasting into KC, you are most likely pasting incorrectly.
If this happens, just select End, confirm you are pasting into an editable text field and then refer back to best practices above. The runtime error will not have any ill effects on the Knowledge Coach workpaper or data.
