Group Policy Drive Mapping Preferences with Windows with Windows Server and Windows Workstation Operating Systems

CCH ProSystem fx Tax does not support the use of the Replace option when using Group Policy Preferences Drive Mapping with Windows Server 2016 and 2019, Windows 8 and Windows 10. The Replace option disconnects the current drive, and then re-maps the drive for the user. A change implemented by Microsoft and how this policy gets applied, can cause system crashes when using the ProSystem fx software. The Create or Update option(s) should be used instead.

Please see below explanation of changes to Windows Server 2012 R2, Window 8 Windows 10 and newer Windows Server versions:

Microsoft has changed the way Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10 and newer Windows Sever versions handle the “Group Policy Preferences Drive Mapping.” In prior versions of Windows, Group Policy Preferences Drive Mapping policy would only apply at logon. This means that drive mapping when using a Group Policy Preference would only occur if a user logged onto the system. Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows 10, and newer Windows Server versions now apply these settings in the background while a user is logged on, meaning if a change is made to a drive map Group Policy Object, it will update during the next background update. For more information about this Policy please refer to your IT Specialist or the Microsoft website.
