About Tax Line Conversion Charts

The Tax Line Conversion Charts can be used to match tax lines with their corresponding CCH ProSystem fx Tax interview form and box number locations.

Tax lines are numeric lines used in Workpaper Manager to assign trial balance or audit workpaper accounts to specific lines on a return. These tax lines are assigned to each account of a client's data needing to be exported for tax return processing.

When you use the Tax Software Interface to configure a trial balance for export using Dynalink, a file is created when you import into a return in Tax Preparation. When you configure a trial balance for export using G/L Bridge, an export file COMPFILE.TXT, is created during the export and is used when importing into a return.

Both the Dynalink and G/L Bridge files contain an extract of accounting data, coded by tax lines, for processing a C Corporation, S Corporation, Partnership, Individual, or Exempt Organization tax return. Dynalink and G/L Bridge use the file as input and merge it into a tax return. During the merging process, the tax line data in the file is converted by mapping it to the appropriate Tax interview form and box number. When the merge process is complete, the tax return is ready for final processing. You can use any of the standard Tax functions to add, change, or delete data as required.

How to Use the Tax Line Conversion Charts

There are two types of charts: tax lines sorted by input form and tax lines sorted by the tax lines. Each chart type has a separate section for each entity processed: Partnership, Corporation, S Corporation, Individual, and Exempt Organization.

  • In the charts sorted by input form, the tax lines listed for each input form are sorted by the box number locations to which they are mapped. Use this chart if you want to know what tax lines are mapped to a specific input form.
  • In the charts sorted by tax lines, the tax lines are listed sequentially. For each tax line, the chart gives the interview form and box number location to which the tax line is mapped. Use this chart if you want to know where a specific tax line is mapped on the interview forms.
