"Unable to detect a connection to either the network or SQL Server" when logging into the Administrator of CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or CCH® ProSystem fx® Workpaper Manager.

Make sure that the SQL Server (PROFXENGAGEMENT) service is started or the service may need to be restarted.

  • Note: Stopping the SQL Server (PROFXENGAGEMENT) on the Engagement or Workpaper Manager office server may affect user connectivity to the server.  Users will still be able to work in their local file rooms, but the ability to log into Engagement or Workpaper Manager in Office mode, or synchronizing binders from the central file room will fail if the service is interrupted or stopped. Furthermore, by default the service named SQL Server Agent (PROFXENGAGEMENT) service is set by default as disabled and is not required to run.
To start or restart the service, do the following:
  1. Click Start menu > Select Run (or use Windows Key  + R to open the Run command)
  2. In the Run dialog box type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. Look for a service named SQL Server (PROFXENGAGEMENT).
    • If the Status of the service is Running or Started:
      1. Select the service.
      2. Right-click on the service and select Restart.
    • If the Status of the service is blank:
      1. Click to select the service.
      2. Right-click and select Start.
  4. Close the Administrator window and log back in to test.
  5. If the issue is still occurring, or if the service is no longer listed please contact Technical Support.
