How do I repair an existing install of CCH® ProSystem fx® Engagement or Workpaper Manager?

For a simple repair of the program:

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel and select either Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features, depending on your Control Panel view. 
  2. Locate CCH ProSystem fx Engagement or Workpaper Manager in the list of Programs and select it.
  3. Click Repair. A small window will pop up displaying a progress bar. When the window closes, the repair has completed.

For an in-depth repair, or for resolving an issue with the program regarding the services, or if the above repair didn't resolve the issue being experienced, do the following:
 

The following video goes over how to repair an existing installation of Engagement to replace the services or other files in the common folder that a simple repair does not normally fix. While the steps in the video are covering the process to repair Engagement, the same steps and processes apply when repairing Workpaper Manager.

  1. ​Close all programs on your computer.
  2. Open Services. Press Windows Key + R, type in services.msc and hit Enter.
  3. Stop the following services by right-clicking on each service and selecting Stop
    • Pfx.Engagement.WcfServices (Applicable to ProSystem fx Engagement 7.0 and newer only).
    • PFXEngDesktopService
    • PFXSYNPFTService
    • Pfx.Engagement.SocketService (Applicable to ProSystem fx Engagement 7.2 and newer only).
  4. Browse to ?:\Pfx Engagement\Common, where ? is the drive where Engagement or Workpaper Manager is installed, and rename the Common folder to old.Common.
  5. Open the Engagement install image or navigate to the Engagement CD Image on the server by pressing Windows Key + R and type \\{servername or IP}\Engagement CD ImageThen press enter.
    • For Workpaper Manager, it will be called the Workpaper Manager CD Image
  6. Right-click on PfxEngSetup.exe, and select Run as Administrator.​
    • For v2019, right-click on Setup.exe and select Run as Administrator.​ Then click New Engagement Installation and continue to step 7.  
  7. Click Next.
  8. The Program Maintenance dialog will display with the following options: Modify, Repair, or Remove. Select Repair.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Click Install.
    • Note: If you receive the message "Unknown source 'managetasks.dll'" during the installation, click OK several times on the message for the installation to continue.

  1. When the InstallShield Wizard Completed window displays click Finish.
  2. Launch Engagement using the shortcut provided on the desktop to allow the office add-ins to be updated and configured.

Note: With Engagement or Workpaper Manager v7.0 or newer, a repair will install any updates that have been previously applied to the machine. It is recommended to verify that you have the latest updates installed by going to http://support.cch.com/updates/Engagement or http://support.cch.com/updates/WorkpaperManager.
