How do I show hidden files, folders, or file extensions in Microsoft® Windows®?

Show Hidden Files or Folders

To see hidden files or folders, do the following:
  1. Open Microsoft® Windows® File Explorer.
  2. Click the View tab.
    • In Microsoft® Windows® 8.1, select the Hidden items check box.
    • In Microsoft® Windows® 10, click the View tab, then select the Hidden items check box in the Show/hide section. 


Show File Extensions

To see file extensions, do the following:
  1. Open This PC.
  2. Click the View tab.
    • In Microsoft® Windows 8.1, select the File name extensions check box.
    • In Microsoft® Windows® 10, click the View tab, then select the File name extensions check box in the Show/hide section.
