How do I enter Real Estate Withholding for California state in a 1040 return using worksheet view.

The real estate withholding amount for California generate when withholding information are entered in the California Form 592-B/Form 593. 

To enter applicable information in the Form 592-B/593 in California state, do the following:

  1. Go to the California > California Individual (Form 540/540NR) > General worksheet.
  • Select Section 7 - Electronic Filing - Resident and Nonres. Withholding (Form 592-B)
    • In Lines, enter applicable information.
  1. Select Section 8 - Electronic Filing - Real Estate Withholding (Form 593).
  • In Lines, enter applicable information.
  1. Calculate the return.

Additional Information

The Withholding amount will flow in resident and non-resident forms based on the input entered.  

  • Resident state: The Form 592-B/593 flows to California Form 540, Line 73.
  • Nonresident state: The Form 592-B/593 flows to California Form 540NR, Line 83.
  • The amount from Form 592-B/593 will flow in Federal > Schedule A, Line 5.
